The Nigeria Customs Service, TinCan Customs Command has stepped up its Anti -Smuggling and enforcement activities with various range of items said to be worth 1,302 billion Naira as DPV of total Seizures.
This was made known to Journalists by the Command’s henchman, Controller Adekunle Oloyede in a briefing at the TinCan Island Command yesterday.
According to him, the Seizures on display include: 145kg of Colorado (Indian hemp) concealed in 2 Units of Ridgeline trucks and 2 units of Toyota Corolla vehicles, 206,000 pieces of machetes, 640 bales of used clothings, 236,500 pieces of used shoes, 62,500 pieces of Lady’s shoes (new), 1,670,400 pieces of Chloroquine injections (5mg/5ml), 1,814,400 pieces of Novalgen injection (500mg/ 5ml).
Others are; 48,850 rolls of cigarettes and 23,600 tins of Sodium bromate & baking powder. Controller Oloyede also disclosed that his Command in addition to the above Seizures, other detentions made include, 3,303 pieces of motor batteries found in 3 Containers falsely declared as 3 units of used Toyota Hiace buses, 4 units of used Mack truck heads, 1 unit of used Toyota Sequoia 2008 model, 1 unit of used Mercedes Benz GL450 2008 model and 1 unit of used 2011 Toyota 4Runner.
The Tincan Customs Command also handed over 1 suspect, 1 arm pistol gun, 2 empty magazines and 3oo rounds of live ammunition to the Directorate of State Security (DSS).
On the Command’s revenue drive, the Tincan Customs Command recorded a 27.50% upsurge in collection amounting to a huge N275 billion in revenue as against 230 billion Naira recorded last year within same period.
The increase in Export activities also saw the Oloyede led Command record an outward throughput of 138,246.50 metric tons, representing an increase of 73% from 100,500 metric tons recorded in 2021. With an F.O.B Value of over 100,447billion representing an increase 60 percent from the over 66billion Naira raked in last year 2022.
