Nigeria Re-opens Four Land Borders 

President Muhammadu Buhari has at the Federal Executive Council meeting (FEC) approved the Re-opening of four land borders with immediate effect.

The Minister of Finance Budget and Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed disclosed this after a virtual meeting held on Wednesday, the 16th December, 2020.

However, the importation of rice and some other products through the land borders remain banned. The Land borders reopened are:

Seme Border;  A settlement in Nigeria on the border with Benin Republic, thirty minutes drive from Badagry on the coastal road between Lagos and Cotonou.

Ilela Border: A Local Govt Area in Sokoto State. It shares a boundary with the Republic of Niger to the North.

Maigatari Border: A Local govt Area in the North of Gigawa State, Nigeria bordering on the Republic of Niger.

Mfun Border: A community in the CrossRiver State, Nigeria, bordering with Cameroon.

Even as commendations greet this recent pronouncement, it remains to be seen if the Northern land borders will be thrown open with the heightened insecurity in this part of the country.
