Nigeria’s Transportation Minister, Hon. Mu’azu Jaji Sambo has washed his hands off the Orashi River port project flagged off last week by the Executive governor of Imo State, Hon. Hope Uzodinma.

Speaking with Journalists at the celebration of this year’s International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) World Maritime Day at the Eko hotels in Lagos, Hon. Sambo said he is not aware of the Oguta Lake Orashi River Port Project being piloted by the Imo Stated government.

In his words, “I don’t know about Orashi dredging, the Federal Ministry of Transportation does not know anything about it. I was away when I heard this piece of news and we put a call across to National Inland Waterways Authority and there was nothing like that,” Sambo clarified.

Though he confirmed that he is yet to reach out to Hon.. Uzodinma to find out how he intends to go about this project. ” I have not reached out to the Imo State Government to know whether the State government intends to carry on with the project on their own. I am not aware, neither is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry nor Heads of Agencies under the Ministry of Transportation,” he revealed.

Recall that last week, the governor of Imo State, Hon. Hope Uzodinma was seen at the Orashi River in Oguta to commission the dredging which was intended to transform it into a River port, giving the impression that it has been approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
