A traditional ruler in Obio Akpo Local Government Area of Rivers State has sent parking his wife following her refusal to dissociate herself from their daughter, identified as Tina Boms, who was allegedly engaging in lesbian activities.

The source said Tina Boms was a suspected top member of a lesbian group in the Southern part of Nigeria. Boms was said to have been rebuked and banished from the oil-rich Rumuorianwo community in Obio Akpor Kingdom forever for committing such an abominable act, which brought shame to the royal home and the community.

The source revealed that the traditional ruler warned all his subjects in the Kingdom, including his wife, never to have anything to do with Tina Boms again for desecrating the land through her involvement in lesbian activities while in her matrimonial home.

The paramount ruler’s action, according to sources, was in line with the customs and traditions of the Obio Akpor Kingdom that stipulated divorce, banishment and other punishment for wives and other indigenes who disobeyed the rule and customs of the people of the Kingdom, as well as those still associating with them.

One of the indigenes of the Kingdom, Mr Timothy Tombra, who spoke to reporters, said Gay, Lesbianism, Bisexual, Transgender, or any person that belongs to the LGBTI group, or promotion of their activities in any form is a severe crime in the Kingdom.

He said Boms got the punishment she deserved, noting that the community cannot condole such attitude or behaviour no matter how highly placed a person might be, adding that the community hold high esteem for its customs and traditions and also reveres the King and praises the bold decision, which indeed sent a strong signal to anyone that has intention whatsoever to brokes any of it the tradition and customs rules will receive severe punishment in this Kingdom.

Meanwhile, following her banishment from the Rumuorianwo community, the traditional ruler’s wife was said to have refused to relinquish the custody of the two children that Tina Boms left behind.

As of the time of this report, the source said the matter had been taken to the state Welfare home as the children’s father and the community are trying to take the children away from the banished grandmother.

Sources also said the matter might be moved to conventional court as Tina Boms and her mother are fighting seriously not to relinquish the custody of the children on the ground that the father of the children is not capable enough to take good care of the children, simply because he has not shown any sign of responsibility on the welfare of the children since his marriage broke down with his ex-wife Tina Boms.

Although, as of the time of filling this report, the whereabouts of Tina Boms is unknown, people in the community have called on the police to locate her whereabouts and get her arrested the way two of her lesbian group members – Emuata Kendra and Imuwa Gloria arrested and detained a few days ago in a hotel in Sapele, Delta State.

Lesbianism is a severe offence in Nigeria that attracts 14 years jail term for anybody found guilty. The police are alert to apprehend anyone found to be a member of this group.
