The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, (NIMASA) has expanded its security arsenal under the Integrated National Security and Waterways Protection Infrastructure, widely known as the Deep Blue Project; unveiling a fresh wave of high-tech assets at the 2026 Africa International Defence Exhibition (AFRIDEX).

The newly showcased equipment are designed to tighten surveillance and response capabilities across both coastal and inland domains. It features vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drones capable of operating directly from sea vessels, modern armored vehicles, rugged utility vehicles tailored for bush and littoral terrain, and integrated intelligence systems.

During the exhibition, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), toured the Deep Blue stand and watched a live simulation of a maritime piracy interdiction.

Speaking on behalf of NIMASA Director-General Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the Head of the Deep Blue Unit, Aisha Yakubu Idris, reiterated the agency’s firm stance against maritime crime. Echoing this commitment, Tal Spektor—CEO of technical partner HLS International—pointed out that maritime security cannot stop at the shoreline. He noted that integrating real-time intelligence with land-based tracking is vital to cutting off the root networks behind offshore criminal activities.

The exhibition brought together top military brass, government regulators, and international defense stakeholders to review how technology continues to transform Nigeria’s blue economy security.
