MWUN Inaugurates, Swears-in CRFFN Union Executives

The Maritime Workers’ Union Of Nigeria, (MWUN) has today, Friday 12, April, 2024 inaugurated and sworn in the Executive members of the newly absorbed workers of Council For The Regulation Of Freight Forwarding In Nigeria (CRFFN), at the Union’s Head office in Lagos.

Speaking at the event today, the AG. Registrar of CRFFN, Dr (Mrs) Chinyere Uromta, represented by the Principal Administration, Mrs Elizabeth Ifezue said CRFFN workers stand to benefit enormously from their association with MWUN even as the Union ensures protection of Workers’ rights. Mrs Uromta on behalf of CRFFN pledged to work assiduously with MWUN to improve on workers welfare.

Also speaking at the epoch making event, the President Shipping Branch, Clearing and Forwarding Branch, Comrd. Ekpeyong Ekpeyong said the CRFFN workers have traced their way back to their Roots which is the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), he said the Union’s leadership has also carefully looked at it and placed them under the Shipping, Clearing and Forwarding Branch, where they are expected to find their fit.
He added that MWUN stands to benefit from this group and their members are delighted to work with the Union.

While addressing the Group, the President General MWUN, Dr (Prince) Adewale Adeyanju said it is a new dawn in the life of the Union, that he is happy that today, the Journey of aligning MWUN to CRFFN workers which started 6- 7 Months ago has crystalized. He thanked the President, Shipping Branch for making this happen, Adeyanju sued for integration of the new members into the Union via the Shipping branch.

In his words, ” where they are coming from maybe different, there is need for the shipping Branch to learn from their experiences, as they must also learn from us.” He said.

Continuing, the PG said that this is a new vista for the Ag. Registrar of CRFFN to earn the support of the union to achieve set goals, ” this will also boost MWUN’s activities with the CRFFN. MWUN is expanding its coast and this is because we are doing the right thing, we urge you to align with the principles of MWUN, this is what binds us together.” MWUN ,he said has evolved from what it used to be, to a more scientific Union, this according to him is why things are falling into shape almost seamlessly. Adeyanju thanked the CRFFN workers for joining the Union and promised that in the next 3 months, they will be given a Unit of their own.

Recall that the CRFFN workers were formerly under OPTAL, under the Ministry of Transportation but with the coming on board of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, CRFFN now falls under the new Ministry, hence this new arrangement.
