MAJAN roundtable: Stakeholders weigh AfCFTA effect on maritime industry, preparedness of stakeholders

The Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria ( MAJAN), has concluded plans to host Maritime stakeholders at her by- weekly Roundtable, holding this Thursday, 18th February, 2021.The discuss will center on the effect of the newly ratified African Continental free Trade Area (AfCFTA), on the Nigerian maritime industry and the preparedness of stakeholders.

Addressing journalists, MAJAN President, Ray Ugochukwu, disclosed that this week’s MAJAN roundtable centers on the significance of ‘African Continental Free Trade Agreement’ (AfCFTA) and the preparedness of maritime stakeholders to fully harness its advantages by graciously keying into this concept.

The focus, he said, is on, ‘African Continental Free Trade Agreement’ (AfCFTA)’, because this is an important issue occupying the front burner discuss at the moment.

Adding that, “The MAJAN Roundtable chat on AfCFTA is equally important, because recommendations from stakeholders will help shape government’s policy formulation and implementation”.

Ugochukwu also urged maritime Journalists to live up to expectation in reporting the sector, especially the rot in the industry. According to him, ” it is not enough for journalists to write run- off- the mill reports, journalists must as a matter of fact begin to engage in investigative reportage of the industry to turn the tide around.

Also fielding questions on the preparedness of MAJAN’s “National Maritime Summit on Apapa traffic gridlock” slated for March, 2021, he said;

“We are on course. Plans are on top gear to ensure a successful outing”.
