FOU Zone A Realises Over N1,021 Billion Via Seizures
The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone A has realised the sum of N1,021,263,350.
The Unit Head, DC Hussein K. Ejibunu while addressing the press recently in Lagos said the operational support his Unit received from the Col. Hammeed Ali led management has spurred his team to go the extra mile in their quest to suppress smuggling activities in the Western Zone.
A breakdown of the Seizures according to Ejibunu shows that the Unit confiscated 8,999 bags of 50kg parboiled foreign rice, 85,300 litres of PMS, 1x40ft. Container of charcoal and 2x20ft container embedded with 4,004 Cartons of Tomato paste. Others are; 5 units of used Tokunbo vehicles, 40 Cartons of 4&5 litres of vegetable oil, 128 parcels of Indian Hemp, 13 Cartons of knock-out or fire crackers, 243 bales of used clothing, 2,976 Cartons of new shoes and 37 Cartons of used poultry.
Comptroller Ejibunu however revealed that 14 suspects were arrested for various offences during the period under review. While 13 of them were released on administrative bail, even as 1 is still in custody pending investigation.
In addition, the FOU ZONE A collected a total sum of N43,530,867,25 through issuance of Demand Notices (DN) to correct detected and identified shortfalls in duty payment.
Speaking further, Controller Ejibunu reiterated his Units readiness to further stamp their authority with a resolve make zone A very uncomfortable for smugglers.
“… Smugglers, intending ones and their collaborators should take note and be warned that FOU ZONE A would watch, remain active and vigilant at all times. Even if the smuggled goods in their bed rooms, be we shall lawfully swoop on them, it’s an ongoing battle that we can not relent on,” he warned.
