Eagle Crime Awareness And Prevevention Innitiative (ECAPI) is on the verge of making history with the organisation of an epoch making Police Carnival, the first of its kind in this part of the world. Before this, ECAPI will play host to the Police Public Relations Officer, ( PPRO) ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi who will be visiting Lagos today, with this visit, it is expected that plans for this planned dream carnival will be finalised. This was disclosed by the President and Founder of the ECAPI outfit, Ambassador Samuel Eniola Adam who spoke at Eagle Crime Stoppers News (ECSN) Basic News Writing and Crime Reporting Training at the weekend in Lagos. “Today we have achieved collaboration with the Nigerian Police Force who trained our men in undercover skills, w have been given a verbal approval to organise Police Carnival, which has never been done before and it’s only a matter of time before this novel carnival comes alive.”
Ambassador Eniola added that ECAPI is in partnership with the Indian Community in Lagos, via their High Commission to ensure a colourful Carnival for the Nigerian Police. He also revealed that his organisation is collaborating with the ICPC, NDLEA, LATSMA and other Agencies of government to stop crimes before they are committed. ” ECAPI is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) formed to assist the law enforcement Agents to nip crimes in the bud, with undercover. We want to be getting the information and then pass them on to the government agencies. This is borne out of the belief that because of our massive population the number of Crimes committed here far outweighs the number of Agencies tackling them. So they still need the Civilian support, we are the Civilian and we take the heat. The military and paramilitary are in the barracks, so they are secured. Without our support for them to continue to curb this menace, there won’t be sanity.”
On the perception of the average military and paramilitary personnel, Eniola says ” ECAPI is a very different organisation, we have so far not had any problems with any of them because they know we are giving them information on how to solve the riddles of Crimes, the only area I feel the military or paramilitary is lagging behind is that of enlightenment. ECAPI is now bridging the Gap between the Agencies and the public, we do this selfless service to humanity, creating awareness on the prevention of crimes by giving information to crime enforcement Agents, we don’t arrest, they do all the arrests, we only volunteer information,” he said.
The basic news writing and Crime Reporting Training which was the focus of the day’s event was well attended with the editor of the paper, (ECSN) Francis Odinukaeze taken members through the rudimentary aspects of news and Crime reporting, with a practical session which allowed those in attendance to demonstrate how well they understood what was being thought.
This event according to the ECAPI Founder will be a continuous one geared towards getting members and other interested individuals to know the basics about news writing, this he says will also help the outfit’s news gathering for it’s publication, ECSN.
