“The newly appointed Transportion Minister, Nu’azu Jaji Sambo should rise above sentiments and take some honest, critical and difficult decisions to turn the Maritime Industry and Transportion system around.” This was the view of
Dr. Boniface O. Aniebonam, the Founder, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), the National and spiritual Leader, New Nigerian Peoples’ Party (NNPP) who spoke yesterday at a Roundtable organised by Maritime Journalists’ Association of Nigeria (MAJAN).

Dr. Aniebonam called on the new Transportion Minister, Mu’azu Sambo to take a critical look at the Council For The Regulation of Freight Forwarding In Nigeria (CRFFN), in a view to finding out if the CRFFN is a government Agency as being misconstrued.
” Sambo should call the FMOT to order, the Hon. Minister should endeavor to find out from the National Assembly, those who made the law if the CRFFN was intended to be a government Agency as being misconstrued.”

Continuing, Dr. Aniebonam said the Freight Forwarders are the arteries of the nation because of the critical job they do in the Maritime Industry and they must not be ignored as it were, in critical policy decisions of the Transportion Ministry.
“Sambo should call those involved to order, CRFFN is a waste as a government Agency, it is misfiring and it’s not achieving its original mandate,” Aniebonam stated.

According the NNPP Spiritual Leader, the leadership of the major Associations which make up the governing board of the CRFFN, Nagaff, ANLCA, NCMDLCA and others agree that the Council is not an Agency of the government, he wonders why it’s hard for the FMOT to understand this, “we have continued to advise but they appear not to be listening, they misinterpreted the pronouncement of the Court and turned CRFFN into a government Agency. The CRFFN ACT says the Chairman of the board should be ellected, we all know what the former Minister of Transportion, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi did with the election before leaving office, the new Minister is expected to make some critical thinking and make some difficult and far reaching decisions, if you take a look at NIMASA, NPA, NSC, is any of the Heads of these government Agencies ellected? The answer is no, so that’s where the problem is, what is the intention of trying to make CRFFN an agency of government?” he sought to know.

Dr. Aniebonam also revealed that if this trend is not changed, Nagaff will head to the Supreme Court to seek for clarification and final interpretation of the CRFFN ACT which spelt it out that the Council is not a government Agency.

He advised the incoming Minister for Transportion to right the wrongs perpetuated by the former Minister, Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

“Why is it that other professional bodies like ICAN, AMA et al, are not regarded as government agencies, the government should have no hands in running the affairs of CRFFN, they can only have supervisory role, I think Sambo is knowledgeable enough to make the necessary changes,” he said.
