WDW 2025: MWUN PG, Bunu Joins Rest Of The World To Press For Decent Work

By Jerry Aguigbo

The President- General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) Comrade Francis Bunu Abi has joined the world to celebrate and to harp on the need for decent work by workers on this year’s World Decent Day ( WDW ) 2025 with the Theme: “For Democracy To Deliver Decent Work”

It’s pertinent to note that Workers’ must be committed to decency at work place all the time while at work and this can only be achieved through a “Democracy that Delivers”, and as a decent diligent workman, he or she deserves better remuneration under a conducive work environment all around the global world.

For millions of workers in Africa, it’s imperative that workers
earn social protection,
with living wages, which is far from being over as we speak today.

Comrade Bunu noted that in the International Trade Union Congress (ITUC-Africa), every job must be pragmatically safe as every worker deserves respect, which is part of man’s dignity in labour. It’s also noteworthy that every nation’s must prioritize its economy on the people over profit, which is the ideal of life worth living.

The foremost Maritime Labour leader in Nigeria, Industrial Activist and Astute Administrator says that it’s only when a “Democracy” thrives that all the aforementioned above can be achieved; therefore, he appealed to all government leaders across the continent to allow democracy thrive. The veteran Sailor used the occasion of the WDW 2025 to call on democracies in the continent and globally to give democracy a chance so that Workers’ conditions can improve than what majority of them are going through presently, as most workers live below average level standard of life, which, is not good for their psychological state.

The MWUN PG further said that the WDW is a day for recognition as it is a call for action; for together,
we can build a future where decent work is a reality for workers and not a mere day dream. And to achieve this noble objective, it must be through a working democracy in action in every nation.
