Senator Kalu Urges President Tinubu to Honor MKO Abiola’s Legacy

By Jerry Aguigbo

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has congratulated former President Ibrahim Babangida on the launch of his new book, which sheds light on the historic June 12, 1993, presidential elections won by Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (MKO). The book is seen as a significant step towards recognizing the validity and sanctity of those elections.

Kalu, who has been a vocal advocate for MKO Abiola’s legacy, praised the late politician’s commitment to humanity, describing him as a classical hero who deserves recognition and immortalization. He noted that former President Muhammadu Buhari had taken significant steps towards recognizing Abiola’s legacy by signing a law that declared June 12 as Democracy Day and conferring the highest national honor, the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), on Abiola posthumously.

Now, Kalu is appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to further honor Abiola’s memory by including his portrait in the lineup of past presidents and current leaders. Kalu believes this would be a significant step towards redemption, justice, and fairness for Abiola and his family. He expressed his hope that Nigeria would know peace, experience prosperity, healing, and lasting unity.
