Quantum Leap : Apapa Customs Hauls N1.023 Trillion, Half Year 2024

The Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Command has post a humongous 1,023,663,842,225.63 trillion, as revenue collected January -July, 2024. Despite a sharp drop in the volume of trade.
This according to Compt. Babatunde Olomu shows an increase of 143% above the figures of N421,382,166,378.46 collected in corresponding period last year, 2023.

Showcasing these seizures today, Monday, July 8 2024 at one of the terminals, said the Premier Command was able to achieve this feat through a blend of intelligence and trade facilitation. According to Olomu, “the ingenuity of the officers was brought to bear on the revenue figure which is witnessing a quantum leap.”
On Anti – Smuggling drive, the Command made seizures of 11 containers, comprising prohibited items such as: expired and unregistered pharmaceuticals, footwears, used clothing, armored cables, frozen poultry products etc, with Duty Paid Value of N
N424,105,975.00 as against 42 Seizures with DPV of N1.4billion made in corresponding period last year 2023.
The CAC disclosed that just last week, the Command uncovered a large quantity of expired and unregistered pharmaceuticals in3x40ft container loaded with 7,580 Cartons of frozen poultry products unfit for human consumption, which is also against Schedule 3 of the revised import prohibition list of the Common Extant Tariff (CET). These importations, according to Compt. Olomu violates Section 233 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
He warned that the harmful effects of these fake , unregistered and expired Pharmaceuticals on citizens are unquantifiable, ” we owe Nigerians a Duty fo preventing them from being exposed to these dangerous importations”, he said .
” In the light of this, I want to use this opportunity to sound a note of warning to perpetrators of Smuggling, duty invasion and other forms of Criminality frowned upon by the NCS Act 2023 and other Extant laws, that Apapa Command is poised to nip illicit importations in the bud.”
He thanked the CGC, Comptroller Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and his Management team for their support, while also mentioning other sister Agencies for their collaboration.
