…vows to bring Nigerian Ports technologically up to date with Modern infrastructure

The Managing Director Nigerian Ports Authority, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho has said that his leadership at the NPA will ensure that the Nation’s Ports are mordernized and technically updated with Morden infrastructure to actually compete and generate employment.
The NPA MD, who had the singular honour of commissioning the newly built Maritime Workers’ Union Secretariat Annex yesterday, at the Union Headquarters, Osho drive, Lagos. Stated that the number of containers being handled by the ports in Nigeria is low and not a true reflection of what Nigeria can do.
” The two million containers handled by our Ports is not a true reflection of what we can do and who we are. We have to generate more containers to ensure more employments for our youths, we have to modernize our Ports and infrastructure, we cannot rely on the ports(Apapa port and Tin -Can) as they were built.”
Dr Abubakar Dantsoho revealed the Ports Authority’s plan to renovate and modernize the ports for more capacity and efficiency.
“In no distant time, we will modernize the ports; Tin-Can, Apapa and others. We will ensure that Nigeria takes her place globally. The NPA will have to procure requisite equipment to take care of the ships and cargos, leveraging on technology,” he stated.
He however called on other operators within the ports to also up the ante by using technology to improve their operations.
He commended the President -General MWUN, Comrade Dr Adewale Adeyanju for being very supportive, according to him, under Adeyanju MWUN has been transformed from what it used to be. He described the PG as naturally very kind and supportive, as he said he looks forward to more corporation with MWUN, and other Unions were workers will be put first and welfare improved. Dantsoho however expects that workers also give more, in order to be motivated.
“You need to give more so as to leave the industry better than you met it, so that you look back with a sense of satisfaction.
The PG who earlier on welcomed the NPA MD, thanked him for being the first NPA Managing Director to personally visit the MWUN Secretariat, according to Adeyanju, this shows Dantsoho is worker friendly.
The high points of the visit was the commissioning of the Newly built Maritime Workers’ Union Secretariat Annex by Dr Abubakar Dantsoho himself and thereafter, the PG reciprocating with a plaque of honour to the NPA Managing Director.
