Apapa Customs Collaborates With Port Police For Operational Efficiency

By Jerry Aguigbo

In a swift move for operational efficiency,
the new Customs Area Controller of the Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Murtala Muazu, has begun his tenure with a visit to the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, promising closer ties between the two agencies guarding Nigeria’s busiest port complex

The familiarisation and courtesy visit was aimed at consolidating existing inter-agency cooperation and strengthening security within the nation’s maritime environment, according to a statement issued on October 12, 2026 by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Isaac Hundeyin.

Muazu assured the Commissioner of Police of his readiness to work closely with the Command and deepen the existing synergy between both agencies.

He pledged to foster mutual cooperation, effective intelligence sharing and operational collaboration in pursuit of what the statement describes as a safe, secure and economically viable maritime environment.

He also stressed the importance of a harmonious working relationship between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Police Force. In his view, sustained collaboration is critical to tackling emerging security challenges, facilitating legitimate trade and safeguarding national economic interests.

The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, CP Oluwatoyin Iyabode Agbaminoja, welcomed the new Controller and his delegation and congratulated him on his appointment.

She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Customs Service in carrying out its statutory duties, adding that effective inter-agency cooperation is indispensable to combating criminal activities and protecting critical port infrastructure.

The CP also assured Muazu of the Command’s continued support and readiness to strengthen the partnership through intelligence sharing, coordinated operations and sustained engagement. The aim, she said, is a peaceful, secure and business-friendly port environment.
