COWA Launches Adopt- a -School Campaign At Idiroko, Picks 250 Green Ambassadors to Push Environmentally Responsible Practices

Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA) yesterday, 15, March 2026, launched a follow-up to “Green Border and Sustainability Initiative, a national programme designed to promote environmental responsibility within Customs Communities and beyond. The follow-up programme was launched at this event called ” Adopt- a- School Campaign – Our very own School.”
Speaking at the Launch, COWA Chairperson, Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi said “it is a special day because today, we are planting something much bigger than trees. Today we are planting responsibility, awareness and leadership in the hearts of our children.”
She lament that today across the world, communities are facing environmental challenges that affect how they live and grow. Flooding destroys homes, plastic waste pollutes land and water. Rising temperatures affect people’s health and agriculture.
These challenges, she stated, are distant, but the truth is that solutions begin in the smallest places like ” our homes, our communities, and our schools.”
Mrs Adeniyi disclosed that this was why COWA launched the Green Border & Sustainability Initiative, a national programme designed to promote environmental responsibility within Customs Communities and beyond.

The height of the day’s event was the adoption of 250 students from five customs commands as Green Ambassadors.
“These young trailblazers are ready to spark eco-friendly vibes in their schools and communities,” she said.
Mrs Adeniyi highlighted that these 250 Green Ambassadors, handpicked from five customs commands, will be the eco-warriors of their schools and communities, driving environmental awareness and sustainable practices forward.
“The Green Ambassadors are gearing up to make a difference with simple yet powerful acts like tree planting, keeping their surroundings clean, and spreading eco-friendly vibes
These young change-makers are stepping up with purpose, From digging in the dirt to plant trees, to keeping their surroundings spick and span, these Green Ambassadors are leading by example, inspiring others with their commitment to responsible environmental practices.”
Mrs Adeniyi pointed out the alarming environmental challenges communities are up against – from devastating floods to scorching temperatures and the plastic waste epidemic, it’s a threat to our health, food security, and every way of life.
“The Green Water Sustainability Initiative is a game-changer! A national program with a clear mission: to ignite environmental responsibility in customs communities and ripple out across Nigeria.”
250 Green Ambassadors handpicked from five different Customs Commands will be saddled with the responsibility of becoming eco-warriors of their schools and communities, driving environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
The Green Ambassadors are expected to make a difference with simple yet powerful acts like tree planting, keeping their surroundings clean, and spreading eco-friendly vibes.

The Ag. Area Controller, Ogun1 Customs Command Comptroller Oladapo O Afeni who addressed the event earlier said the visit today is not only historic but symbolic.
In his words:
“It underscores the deep commitment of COWA under your purposeful leadership to promoting environmental sustainability, community development, and the welfare of families within the Customs community, especially along our border corridors.”
On the whole, the event was a huge success, It was a rallying point for environmental sustainability and community welfare, with captivating lectures, a host of cultural displays, and impactful drama performances. However, the highlight remained the symbolic tree planting ceremony within school premises, sowing seeds of eco-consciousness, and the inspiring decoration of selected students as Green Ambassadors – a testament to NCS’s unwavering commitment to nurturing a greener future.
“The Green Border, as we understand it, aligns perfectly with global and national calls for environmental responsibility. Here at Ogun, I Command, we are deeply conscious of the delicate balance between trade facilitation, border security, and environmental preservation. This initiative, therefore, comes as a welcome complement to our operational goals, particularly as we continue to strengthen partnerships with our host communities for peace, security, and prosperity.”
Afeni commended , the President, for her visionary leadership and for taking COWA beyond its traditional humanitarian mandate into areas of sustainability and ecological stewardship.
