NIMASA Sensitizes Stakeholders On Maritime Labour e-platform

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA has started the Sensitisation of stakeholders on maritime Labour e-platform, a digital solution by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to automate maritime labour registration and regulation processes in Nigeria.
The e-platform aims to create a robust and integrated platform for comprehensive maritime labour data in Nigeria. Its functions include automating manual processes for seafarer and employer registration, improving service delivery, facilitating the issuance of biometric identity cards, and enhancing regulatory compliance with the International Labour Organisation’s Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006, and national regulations. It also serves as a central system for generating data on the maritime labour force to support capacity building and welfare.
Stakeholders’ Sensitization and Pilot
NIMASA conducted a pilot test events to introduce the e-platform to stakeholders.
A pilot test of the platform and the issuance of biometric ID cards for dockworkers were officially carried out in Lagos in November 2025.
Opening remarks was made Ibrahim Sidi, Director Maritime Labour Services.
Mr Ibrahim said that the e-platform will kick start in January 2026 and it will also be test run in Phort Harcourt and other places.
In attendance were representatives from key stakeholders, including the, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Dock Workers , Nigeria Seafarers and other Maritime stakeholders,
were present at these events.
These efforts were part of a broader initiative to inform the industry about digital governance, improved service delivery, and innovation.
